One of Alternative’s favorite Brit Rock bands, Arctic Monkeys, are back with their first new single release of the year. A long time staple of Alternative music, the band started out back in 2002, and released their first EP I Bet You Look Good On the Dance Floor in 2005. This has been followed eighteen other releases including EPs, singles, and four full-length albums. Now 2012, they have hit twenty releases with their newest single, “R U Mine?” that came out on March 2nd.
“R U Mine?” is a perfect blend of the old and new of Arctic Monkeys. The song has all the bands well-loved qualities, but still has a fresh sound. The song has same rock meets disco-ish feel with the steady and unshakable beat from Matthew Helders on drums and the skillful repetition of chords on bass from Nick O’Malley. The guitar follow suit, to create a with classic rock n’ roll grit but a distinctly funky, no-frills sound. These elements combines with Alex Turner’s clean and cheeky vocals to produce what I think is one of their best songs to date, and is a sure sign of more to come.
